Teen amputee awarded millions for doctor error

In the case of a chronic medical condition, doctors and other professionals are probably not the only ones providing care. Family members are also called upon to offer routine care and treatment. Parents of children here in Maryland just like anywhere else will often administer medicine and otherwise help their children dealing with medical issues. Difficult questions can arise, however, when these parents try to sue over a medical error.

The mis-education of the American physician?

Approximately 100,000 patients die every year because of doctor errors. Furthermore, about one-third of patients who stay in hospitals are harmed during their stays. With such an alarming rate of doctor errors and the often tragic and preventable consequences of medical malpractice, attempts to identify the underlying causes of the most serious errors have increased substantially.

Legal questions loom for doctors in problematic abortion

When a doctor's conduct is especially egregious or reckless, it is possible for both a civil lawsuit and a criminal prosecution to be the result. In a recent case, two doctors were recently indicted on murder charges following the performance of an abortion on a woman in 2010. The doctors are alleged to have violated Maryland's fetal homicide law, which does not allow a fetus to be aborted once it becomes viable.
