Failures in supervision do occur in Maryland nursing homes

Previous posts have discussed medical malpractice as it pertains to claims such as hospital negligence. Hospital negligence is unfortunately all too common. Much of this is the result of failures in supervision, as well as overworked physicians. Another form of negligence, very similar to hospital negligence, is nursing home negligence. Due to the vulnerability of the elderly this is a particularly egregious crime; something Maryland residents would probably like to avoid.

According to a very shocking news report, a Maryland nursing home was recently accused of serious neglect. The most recent allegations stem from one patient who stayed at the nursing home for rehabilitation. The man was recovering from a pressure ulcer, and had recently been released from the hospital. According to reports, within a month the man was rushed back to the hospital with bedsores that covered his back, as well as very serious infections.

This is not the first time that this nursing home has been under fire. The home actually has a very long list of health and safety violations, and had received thousands of dollars in fines and sanctions, but nothing has helped. The home was also placed on a nationwide list of nursing homes with persistent health and safety violations. In fact, according to one report, the nursing home is only one of two Maryland nursing homes on the nationwide list.

Medical negligence is one thing, but this rises to a new level inappropriate. Most everyone has an elderly family member, and many have an elderly family member who currently lives in a nursing home. No one should have to endure this type of disrespect or pain, certainly not the elderly. If someone is injured due to neglect, it is important to seek help. The only way to end this type of outrageous conduct is to hold the culprits accountable for their actions.
