Doctor's failure to diagnose illness results in stroke

A doctor's failure to diagnose an illness, especially a life threatening one, is unacceptable. Whether it is due to the doctor being overworked or sheer negligence, the fact is, too many doctors spend too little time with their patients, and that can lead to medical mistakes.

Whether the patient is in a big city like Baltimore or rural Maryland, every patient deserves to spend the time necessary with their physician to receive a proper and accurate medical diagnosis.

A woman from St. Clair County in Southern Illinois claims that she suffered a severe stroke due to her physician's failure to properly diagnose her condition known as mitral valve disease. According to the complaint, mitral valve disease is a condition in which the valve between the left heart chambers fails to function properly. It can be deadly.

The woman claims that her doctor's failure to properly diagnose the illness resulted in her inability to receive timely treatment for the condition. And her failure to receive timely treatment for the disease ultimately resulted in her suffering a severe stroke.

According to the complaint, the woman suffered a "cerebrovascular event." This is a stroke that affects the blood flow to the brain. As a direct result, the woman has experienced a number of very serious side effects including cognitive defects, mental anguish, disability and disfigurement, severe and permanent pain and suffering, and numerous expensive medical bills.

The woman believes that the doctor should have properly diagnosed the illness and she is suing the doctor and the hospital for negligence. She is seeking more than $525,000 in damages, plus legal costs. The case will be heard in St. Clair County Circuit Court in Illinois.
