Family settles medical malpractice case following birth injury

As many of our Maryland readers probably know, medical malpractice lawsuits are filed every day in the United States. From Maryland to California, medical mistakes that harm patients can result in heated litigation. In many cases, however, parties reach out-of-court settlements. While such agreements can take time to develop, settlement is often beneficial for everyone, saving both parties money and a significant amount of time.

A recent report detailed an out of court settlement that was reached following a tragic birth injury case. The parties reportedly agreed to a $9 million settlement after a baby girl was born with permanent brain damage. According to the mother of the young girl, now 20-months-old, the money will be used to help provide the young girl with the best medical care she can have.

According to reports, the child was injured because of hospital negligence and doctor's errors. The mother claims that her daughter was injured because doctors refused to perform a C-section. The hospital argued that doctors were convinced that the woman opposed the procedure. The plaintiff, who was in labor for 7 hours, says the doctors' beliefs were completely unfounded. The family had originally sought $15 million.

Birth injuries and delivery errors can have life-long consequences for both the mother and the child. Sadly, when children are injured during birth, the effects from the injuries can be permanent. In such cases providing care for the child can be an incredibly costly, life-long task. To manage these medical expenses and other costs associated with delivery errors patients may need to seek compensation by filing a medical malpractice lawsuit
