Patients suffers blindness due to surgical errors

Surgery can be a scary experience. Nevertheless, sometimes surgery is necessary, and when it is, patients in Maryland must trust the expertise and experience of trained medical professionals. When that trust is broken, however, and preventable surgical errors result in serious injury, it can be confusing for patients. Fortunately, there are people who can help. If nothing else, knowing what options are available is key to taking the next step.

Maryland readers who follow national medical malpractice cases may already be familiar with the following medical malpractice case. According to news reports, in November 2011, a male patient underwent eye surgery for an undisclosed condition. The complaint states that during the eye operation a doctor improperly injected anesthetic into the patient's left eye causing permanent vision loss.

A lawsuit has been filed naming both the doctor and his employer as defendants in the case. The lawsuit cites medical negligence as the cause of the plaintiff's injuries. Both parties are reportedly represented in the matter and a judge was recently assigned to the case. The plaintiff is seeking an amount of money to be determined by the court.

When a person is injured due to preventable surgical errors it is important that they talk to a medical malpractice professional. Surgical errors can have harsh consequences and may require expensive long-term care. In addition to holding those responsible accountable for their mistakes, it is also important for patients to protect their own health interests and ensure they have the means to obtain the future medical and rehabilitative care they require, in addition to recovery for lost earning capacity and lost wages.
